WiRED’s Video Collection
Over the years, WiRED International has produced several short films to showcase our work. These videos provide a powerful visual record of WiRED’s accomplishments and growth during our 25 year history. Each one vividly illustrates how we have never forgotten our mission — to provide free medical and health education to underserved communities around the world.
Rheumatic Heart Disease
This video, an animation designed largely for children and parents, describes rheumatic heart disease, a disease largely eliminated from the industrialized world but still prevalent in the lowest income regions where health care is sparse. The potentially life-threatening nature of the disease is discussed together with the risks of leaving it untreated and ways in which it can spread. The video concludes with how to prevent RHD and the vital role of spreading this information. It is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The animation is voiced by actor, Kate Hodges.
Community Health Worker Documentary
This 16-minute documentary shows the life-changing work carried out by WiRED’s community health workers (CHWs) in Kisumu, Kenya, who provide an important link between the medical community and vulnerable communities. Several CHWs provide first-hand accounts on the challenges and scope of their work together with describing how they are able to gain the trust of the population they serve.
