Olivia Spirito Joins WiRED’s Advisory Board

Brings New Perspectives in Novel Technologies

By Allison Kozicharow; Edited by Elizabeth Fine

WiRED International is pleased to announce that Olivia Spirito will join WiRED’s Advisory Board. WiRED Executive Director Gary Selnow, Ph.D., commented:

Olivia has been an exceptional volunteer with WiRED over the years, dedicating her time and expertise to effectively communicate our health education initiatives in low-resource environments. She has become an invaluable member of the WiRED family, and we are genuinely excited that she has accepted a position on our Advisory Board. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Olivia as she embarks on her graduate studies abroad.

When she heard the news, Ms. Spirito said:

I was absolutely thrilled when Gary Selnow asked me to join WiRED’s Advisory Board! Having been part of WiRED’s mission for so many years, I admire the dedication and accomplishments of all volunteers and Advisory Board members within the health care realm inside and outside of WIRED. I am honored to sit alongside our volunteers in this position, contributing to our mission and diving deeper into strategizing how WiRED can continue to make a meaningful impact in health education and access to care.

Ms. Spirito began volunteering for WiRED when she was in high school and contributed occasional articles to our website, providing WiRED with a valuable  Gen Z perspective. Today she manages WiRED’s Instagram and LinkedIn accounts, which she created, and she coordinates with our Facebook page manager, Elizabeth Fine, Ph.D.

When asked about her recent endeavors, Ms. Spirito said,

I am pursuing a master’s in business administration and Innovation in healthcare at Copenhagen Business School. My studies are expanding my understanding of how healthcare innovations can be effectively organized, managed and brought to market to benefit patients.

Ms. Spirito’s described her academic focus, which ties in with WiRED’s efforts — since our organization’s inception —  to adapt and create cutting edge technology, including apps, to enhance accessibility to WiRED’s programs:

Thinking about WiRED’s efforts, I am particularly interested in how novel technologies can be applied to address economic barriers and expand access to healthcare education and diagnostic services. I am eager to explore how innovative educational tools and diagnostic technologies can empower community health workers to provide accurate diagnoses, prevent communicable diseases, educate their communities and deliver essential healthcare services in resource-limited settings.

In conclusion Ms. Spirito said:

I am very excited about this opportunity to work with the WiRED Advisory Board to find new ways to support our global partnerships and communities.

Note: WiRED International’s Advisory Board comprises a distinguished group of scholars, experts and leaders. These individuals come from a variety of backgrounds, including medicine, science, government, technology and other fields relevant to WiRED’s mission of bringing health education to underserved regions. The Advisory Board members volunteer their time and expertise to help WiRED maximize its positive impact on people who often lack access to healthcare systems.
