The WiRED International family wishes everyone a happy and healthy new year.
2025 already presents an uncertain prospect, unfolding in a world of conflict and war, accelerating climate change, disease and food scarcity.
Since 1997 WiRED has provided health education and training free of charge to people in underserved regions of the world. The drive of WiRED’s volunteers everywhere is to provide the training and information people need to live healthier lives.
WiRED’s history has been one of creating reliable, peer-reviewed health content and delivering it free of charge to off-the-grid places by inventing technology to make our programs accessible to all. Our organization has traveled the globe to honor our mission to support local populations in need. Over the years, for example, WiRED:
- Built a network of internet access centers in the Balkans (Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo);
- Used technology to aid doctors in post-war Iraq;
- Brought our health education programs to remote parts of the Peruvian Amazon; and
- Provided health and first aid training for the people of Ukraine.
In 2020 with the establishment of our first Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Program in Kisumu, Kenya, we answered the World Health Organization’s call for CHWs to fill the gap in low-resource areas where doctors and nurses are scarce if available at all.
This year WiRED will go beyond expert training of paraprofessional teams of CHWs. We have developed two initiatives whose technology and focus will open our programs for use in widespread applications we never dreamed of 28 years ago.
Despite the challenges that 2025 will certainly bring, WiRED believes that together we will be up to the task of elevating community health globally. WiRED will continue to develop, to offer and now — through innovative use of technology — to share our cost-free programs so that under-resourced communities can acquire the knowledge to steer their own courses to better health.
