WiRED Launches Labor and Delivery Module

BY ALLISON KOZICHAROW AND BERNICE BORN

WiRED International just released a training module on women’s labor and delivery as part of its upcoming Health Learning Center series on maternal and child health.

The Labor and Delivery — Introduction Module offers general guidelines to expectant mothers. The training covers false labor and the stages of labor and presents an overview of pain management techniques, cesarean delivery and more.

Every day about 830 women die due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Almost all of these deaths occur in low-resource settings, and most could have been prevented. Knowing what to expect during labor and delivery can save a woman’s life.

Note: This introductory module will join more than 25 others in a comprehensive collection of educational training modules covering each phase of becoming a parent and addressing a child’s basic health needs up to age five. The series is designed for use in high school health programs, for young people planning a family and for young parents raising a family. WiRED expects to release the Mother and Child Health program in early summer of 2017.
